How do I: Set up my RSA Token to Rx opioids…
RSA is the mobile authentication program for EPCS (Elctronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances). You cannot prescribe controlled substances (including opioids or benzos like diastat) without having this set-up.
Please note: Once you have the app set up, it will not tell you if you use the wrong PIN or if your account is locked. If you’re having any problems, call the IT Helpdesk to reset your PIN or unlock your account.
Before starting
You will need to have a “Token URL” (it looks like a long website link) emailed to you from ITSecurity@montefiore.org. At the beginning of the year the chiefs request RSA tokens to be sent to each new intern. However if you have lost the email, not received the email, or are not an intern, all you need to do is use the IT Self-Service Portal on each computer or call the IT Helpdesk (718-920-4554) and request an RSA Token be emailed to you.
I have a token email! Now what?
Step 1: Great! Download the “RSA SecurID” App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Step 2: Forward the email from IT with your token to your personal email account so you can access it on your phone
Step 3: On your phone, click on the CTKIP URL (this is the token) and if it asks, have it open using the RSA SecurID App. This will import the token and now you’re activated!
If there are two Token links, one will be for Android and one for iPhone. Use the appropriate one. If this does not work, copy the Token link and in the RSA SecurID app, click on “Import Token” and paste the link.
Now I have the RSA App set-up! How to I make a PIN?
If don’t need to write a prescription right now (way to be proactive!) jump down to the next section to see how to set up the PIN any time.
Step 1: Open Epic and in the patient’s chart start writing the prescription as you would any other prescription
Step 2: A window will pop up (below). Click the checkbox next to the reviewed prescription.
Step 3: Enter your EPIC login credentials
Step 4: An RSA authentication window will open asking for your RSA Passcode
Step5: Open the RSA app on your phone->
Step 6: A new window will appear to create a PIN. It must be 4-8 digits and cannot start with 0
Step 7: When the window says “PIN accepted”, go back to your phone, close the RSA app and reopen it.
Step 8: Enter your new PIN in the RSA app and use the Token that generates in the EPIC window.
That’s it! Your PIN is created and the order is signed!
I’m setting up my PIN in advance!
We’ll be using a test patient to create your PIN.
Step 1: Open up EPIC Playground
Login: IPMD08 Password: train
Step 2: Login to your outpatient clinic
Step 3: Search for patient: ZZZTEST, EPCSEIGHT
Step 4: Create an “Ambulatory Orders Only” encounter and select “Place Ambulatory Orders” from the activities list on the left
Step 5: Jump back up to the instructions above
