IMDS (Inherited Metabolic Disorders Screen) is the Newborn Screen for the Sate of New York. If you would like to learn more about the screening, the diseases it screens for, or the centers which run the tests, clear here. Accessing teh results is through the NYS Health Commerce System.

How to create an account

  1. Go to the website: https://apps.health.ny.gov/pub/usertop.html and create a user ID and password.

  2. Email Peter Maggio (from the Housestaff Office) at pmaggio@montefiore.org with the following info:
    - User ID and Password (You can just send the email you receive from the HSC).
    - Copy of your NYS Drivers' License or Passport
    - Email address (consider one you will have access to after graduating residency)

how to lookup an imds result

1. Go to the NYS Health Commerce System: https://commerce.health.state.ny.us/public/hcs_login.html

2. Select “Newborn Screening Applications” on the left

(If it does not appear on the left, go to the “My Content” tab on top). Click “All Applications”. Select “N” and click the green “+” button next to “Newborn Screening Applications”. Now it should appear on the main screen.)

3. Click on “Secure remote viewer”

4. Enter as much or as little information as you have (remember this is birth information and not what the patient’s current last name is.

5. Select the checkbox next to the IMDS you would like to check, and then click “View Mailer” to download the results

6. Remember to enter the information in the “Birth History” of the patient if they were not born in the Montefiore System
